Urban Exposome, Cognition, and Behavior in Canadian Cohorts Harmonization Protocol
Networks
-
Variables
-
The objective of this Harmonization Protocol was to generate harmonized datasets across 3 Canadian birth cohorts to estimate the associations between the urban exposome and cognitive and psychomotor function and between the urban exposome and emotional and behavioral issues, between 2 to 5 years old, as part of the research objectives of the Urban Exposome Harmonization Initiative.
- Version
- 1.0
- Number of Participants
- 6,283
- Approach
- Retrospective
- Type
- Quantitative
- Procedures
- Harmonized data were generated by a central harmonization team (with the collaboration of studies).
- Participant Inclusion
- Singletons without major disease or genetic syndrome at birth that could affect neurodevelopment.
- Infrastructure
- Harmonized data must remain on study servers, but federated data analysis can be achieved.
Information Content
This protocol covers information about the urban exposome (built environment, natural spaces, and air pollution) during pregnancy, and cognitive and psychomotor function and emotional and behavioral issues in childhood (2-5 years of age). The studies included were Canadian birth cohorts with urban exposure assessment during pregnancy and at least one neuro-outcome measured during childhood. The variables include exposures, outcomes, and covariates (lifestyle and socioeconomic confounders, and exclusion criteria).
Additional Information
Harmonization is conducted based on the protocols developed by the LifeCycle Project work packages:

Harmonization
- Complete - study-specific variable is the same as DataSchema variable (status detail = identical) or needs transformation to generate DataSchema variable (status detail = compatible)
- Partial - categorical study-specific variable (status detail = proximate) or other types (status detail = tentative) could generate DataSchema variable but with loss of information
- Impossible - study does not collect DataSchema variable (status detail = unavailable) or cannot be used to generate DataSchema variable (status detail = incompatible)
- Undetermined - harmonization status not determined
- Not Applicable - harmonization status is not relevant
