The population was composed of women who were pregnant with twins and were taken in charge by international participating centres. The women in this group were randomly assigned to the planned vaginal delivery group.

Information was collected about the primary outcomes, which concerned maternal death or serious maternal morbidity from delivery to 28 days postpartum.

Physical examinations were carried out to determine maternal death or serious maternal morbidities. These included death, hemorrhage, laparotomy, genital tract injury, thromboembolism, systemic infection major medical life-threatening illness; wound infection requiring prolongation of the hospital stay, readmission to the hospital, or repeated treatment as an outpatient; wound dehiscence or breakdown, or other serious maternal complication.

Blood was also collected.

Data were abstracted from the medical records at participating centers and were recorded, after delivery, on standardized data-collection forms.
