SRI_Exposure - Cohort A Children exposed to SRIs - 9 to 14 years
Background measures were obtained to identify child mental health, behavioral and academic, general health. Social adjustment, executive function, depression, anxiety, behavior and development were assessed. Attentional bias to threat, executive functions were also assessed.
Social adjustment was assessed with the Behaviour Assessments System for Children (BASC), executive function in the home and school environment information was obtained from the Behaviour Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF), depression (cognitive, affective, and behavioral signs of depression) was assessed with the Child Depression Inventory (CDI). Anxiety (range of DSM-defined anxiety disorder symptoms) was measured by the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED-R) and anxiety(state/trait) was measured with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Form (STAIC). Anxiety/depression (temperamentally withdrawn behavior) was also measured using the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). Behaviour, a child’s response to novelty, was assessed using the Behavioral Inhibition Questionnaire(BIQ) and development (pubertal growth) was assessed using The Pubertal Development Scale (PDS).
Attentional bias to threat was assessed using the Dot-probe task.
Cognitive flexibility, working memory, and inhibition were measured using Hearts and Flowers (HF) Task, which measured working memory and inhibition; The Flanker Reversed Flanker Task, which measures inhibition of visual attention to flanking stimuli; The Self-Ordered Pointing Task, which measures visual working memory but not inhibition; and The Simple and Choice Reaction Time, which measures speed of processing.
A saliva sample was collected for cortisol and alpha amylase levels.
