Data Collection Event

SRI_Exposure - Cohort A Children not exposed to SRIs - 5 to 7 years

Background measures were obtained to identify child mental health, behavioral and academic, general health. Executive functions, stress reactivity and the impact of genetic and epigenetic factors following pSRI exposure were also assessed.

Social adjustment, executive function, mental health, IQ and everyday behavior, function and health were assessed.

Social adjustment was assessed with the Behaviour Assessments System for Children (BASC), executive function in the home and school environment information was obtained from the Behaviour Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF), mental health (current and past episodes of psychopathology) was assessed with the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Aged Children (K-SADS-PL), and finally every day behavior, function and health were assessed with the MacArthur Health and Behaviour Questionnaire (HQB).

Cognition was tested in 2 ways, using the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (K-BIT) and computerized tasks. Flexibility, inhibition and working memory were assessed. The dots and flanker task was used to assess working memory, inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility, the self-ordered pointing task and the spatial span task were used to measure working memory. The Simple and choice reaction time tasks assess speed of processing, which is heavily intertwined with all cognitive abilities.

Stress reactivity was assessed through the measures of autonomic (cardiac measures and salivary alpha amylase) and HPA axis (cortisol) responses to lab based challenge stressors and to everyday stressors (home/school) during a typical childhood week. The lab challenge study will be undertaken by using the MacArthur Assessment Battery for Middle Childhood which provides measures of autonomic reactivity. Heart rate (HR), respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) and a shortnened preejection period (PEP) were assessed.

In the week before the lab challenge study, saliva will be collected 4 times on 4 consecutive days to yield measures of salivary cortisol and salivary alpha-amylase. DNA extraction, genotyping, and bisulfite pyrosequencing were done as well.
