SCS - Baseline
The baseline assessment comprised three separate home visits.
Data gathered during the first visit included; demographics, lifetime medical history, current medications, fall history, subjective cognitive complaints, a brief cognitive screen, and a lifetime dietary questionnaire. A brief medical exam was also conducted which included measures of gait, balance, vision, blood pressure, heart rate, lung function, weight and height.
The second visit comprised a neuropsychological battery that assessed memory, attention and processing speed, visuospatial functioning, language skills, perception, executive functioning, practical problem-solving and premorbid function.
The third visit included measures of mood and anxiety, social networks, physical and mental activity, family medical history, and satisfaction with life. An informant-based assessment provided information about demographic details, cognitive decline, everyday functioning and dementia. Participants were also invited to complete an MRI scan and provide a blood (or failing that, saliva) sample for bio-chemical analysis and DNA extraction.
