PHAC-PERC COVID population

The population is composed of children (less than 18 years old) who are tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection in any of the 14 participating pediatric emergency depatments (EDs) located across Canada.

Health Status

Participants are included if they presented themselves to a participating emergency department for care and underwent SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid testing.

Other Criteria

Participants are excluded if they tested for COVID as part of asymptomatic screening without a known exposure.

Data Collection Event

PHAC-PERC COVID - 14-day follow-up post enrollment

Information about vital status, clinical signs and symptoms, and care received are collected. In addition, if the child is hospitalized, information about length of hospital stay, type of hospital care required (e.g. intensive care unit (ICU)), interventions, results of further laboratory tests, and any complications are collected through chart review.
