Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Children Potentially Infected by SARS-CoV-2 Presenting to Pediatric Emergency Departments in Canada

The primary objective of this registry is to fully evaluate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infected children.
The secondary objectives are:
* To describe and compare health care resource utilization for patient management (e.g. isolation, laboratory testing, imaging, and supportive care) of both confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infected children and those that have SARS-CoV2 test-negative infections.
* To analyze outcomes among infants in less than 90 days.
* To compare outcomes based on self-identified ethnic background.
* To compare outcomes across the emerging Variants of Concern (VoC).
* To compare outcomes across varying respiratory pathogens and among children with co-detections.
* To assess differences in risk factors and clinical characteristics between VoC-infected, non-VoC infected, and SARS-CoV-2 negative children.
* To identify and compare risk factors for severe outcomes between VoC-infected, non-VoC infected, and SARS-CoV-2 negative children.
* To compare development of long-COVID symptoms and QoL in SARS-CoV- 2 infected children (VoC and non-VoC related) to those who are SARS-CoV-2 negative.

- Participants are followed-up 14 and 90 days following enrollment. Starting in November 2021, additional follow-ups are permoded anytime between 6 to 9 months and 12 to 15 months following enrollment.

PHAC-PERC COVID population
The population is composed of children (less than 18 years old) who are tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection in any of the 14 participating pediatric emergency depatments (EDs) located across Canada.

- Participants are included if they presented themselves to a participating emergency department for care and underwent SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid testing.
- Other Criteria
- Participants are excluded if they tested for COVID as part of asymptomatic screening without a known exposure.
