PHAC-PERC COVID population

The population is composed of children (less than 18 years old) who are tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection in any of the 14 participating pediatric emergency depatments (EDs) located across Canada.

Health Status

Participants are included if they presented themselves to a participating emergency department for care and underwent SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid testing.

Other Criteria

Participants are excluded if they tested for COVID as part of asymptomatic screening without a known exposure.

Data Collection Event

PHAC-PERC COVID - 12-month follow-up

Information about the presence of chronic symptoms, clarifying if they pre-dated the index emergency department visit, and quality of life are collected. Symptom questions focus on fatigue, cough, muscle weakness, fevers, challenges with concentration and memory, mood changes, sleep difficulties, hair loss, headaches, arthralgia, paresthesia, diarrhea, vomiting, anosmia, ageusia, tinnitus, sore throat and swallowing difficulties, rashes, shortness of breath, chest pains, and palpitations.
