PE-NET - Pre-eclampsia Mothers

The population is composed of women who were at more than 20 weeks of gestation at enrolment, diagnosed with pre-eclampsia who live within a 50km radius from the Kingston or Ottawa General Hospitals.

Women with a history of hypertension, diabetes (including development of gestational diabetes in any pregnancy), renal disease, or cardiovascular disease and if they lived beyond a 50 km radius from either the Kingston or Ottawa General Hospitals were excluded.

All women diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at the time of presentation to clinic or admission/transfer to either the Kingston or Ottawa General Hospitals were approached to participate.

Data Collection Event

PE-NET - Pre-eclampsia Mothers - 1 year postpartum

Information about race,education level, household income, use of antihypertensive medication and smoking was collected.

Anthropometric measurements were taken and calculated for each participant. Weight and height measurements were taken and standardized, and blood pressure was measured. Body mass index was calculated, as well as the change in the body mass index from prepregnancy to the 1 year follow-up.

At this time, morning blood was collected after an overnight fast, as well as, first morning urine and saliva.
