Participants were recruited from the Ottawa Hospital and Kingston General Hospital during prenatal care or ultrasound visits. Posters and brochures in both official languages were also distributed to the offices of obstetricians and family physicians within the study catchment area.

Data Collection Event

OaK Birth Cohort - Mothers - Phase I

Data on biological and environmental variables potentially influencing adverse pregnancy outcomes were collected. Data concerning the mother's medical and obstetrical histories, health indicators, and pregnancy outcome were collected. Basic demographic data were also collected for both the mother and the father.

A blood sample was taken.
