Supplementary Information about selection criteria

Women <18 years or >45 years of age;
Women who are illegal drugs users;
Women with multiple pregnancies (twin or more fetuses);
Fetuses or infants with known congenital anomalies or chromosomal abnormalities (e.g. Down syndrome);
Mothers or infants with endocrine disorders: growth hormone deficiency, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, or other known endocrine disorders;
Mothers or infants with severe illnesses or life threatening conditions: renal failure, active or chronic liver diseases, epilepsy, collagen diseases, serious pulmonary disease, serious hematologic disorders, cancers, heart disease, or other life threatening conditions;
Fetal or infants deaths (only expected 0 or 1 case within the recruited sample).

Data Collection Event

MIROS C - Mothers - Birth

Data on demographic characteristics, family structure, socio-economic structure, nutrition and medication, parental health and physical environment were collected through questionnaires.

Maternal cord blood and placenta samples were collected.

Data on maternal outcomes (pregnancy complications, mode of delivery, severe maternal morbidity) were also collected from medical records.
