Supplementary Information about selection criteria

Fetuses or infants with known congenital anomalies or chromosomal abnormalities (e.g. Down syndrome);
Mothers or infants with endocrine disorders: growth hormone deficiency, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, or other known endocrine disorders;
Mothers or infants with severe illnesses or life threatening conditions: renal failure, active or chronic liver diseases, epilepsy, collagen diseases, serious pulmonary disease, serious hematologic disorders, cancers, heart disease, or other life threatening conditions;
Infants with several asphyxia (cord arterial blood PH <7.05) or 5-minutes Apgar score <4 (such exposure may affect oxidative stress markers in cord blood samples);
Fetal or infants deaths (only expected 0 or 1 case whitin the recruited sample).

Data Collection Event

MIROS C - Children - 12 months postpartum

Data on nourishment and medical history were collected through questionnaires.

Weight, height, arm circumference, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory capacity and temperature were also measured. A carotid ultrasound exam was done.

A blood sample was collected.
