A sub-sample of the Scottish Mental Survey 1947. The mean age of the participants was 70 years old at wave 1, 73 years old at wave 2 and 76 years old at wave 3.

Between 2004 and 2007, individuals from Edinburgh and the Lothians who might have taken part in the 1947 Survey were invited to participate in the LBC1936.

Data Collection Event

LBC1936 - Wave 3

Cognitive ability: Psychometric battery consisting of executive function, reasoning, memory, and processing speed.

Socio-demographic information: marital status/living arrangement.

History of disease and medication use, anxiety and depression, smoking and alcohol status.

Physical and fitness measures: disability scale, height, weight, blood pressure, lung function, grip strength, 6-m walk time, visual acuity, ABPI, balance, dentition.

Blood samples taken for DNA extraction, biochemistry and haematology.

Magnetic resonance brain imaging.
