Information Content
The IALSA/BRAIN Qualitative Harmonization Protocol was generated using the study questionnaires and data dictionaries from baseline assessments of 9 cohort studies of aging. This harmonization protocol includes 72 variables evaluated across 19 study-specific datasets.
The IALSA/BRAIN Qualitative DataSchema covers information on :
* Participants' socio-demographic and economic characteristics
* Participants' lifestyle and behaviours such as tobacco use, alcohol use, physical activity
* Participants' personal history of diseases
* Participants' physical measures such as height, weight, BMI, grip strength, walking speed, chair stand, balance, pulmonary function
* Participants' psychological measures
Harmonization
- Complete - study-specific variable is the same as DataSchema variable (status detail = identical) or needs transformation to generate DataSchema variable (status detail = compatible)
- Partial - categorical study-specific variable (status detail = proximate) or other types (status detail = tentative) could generate DataSchema variable but with loss of information
- Impossible - study does not collect DataSchema variable (status detail = unavailable) or cannot be used to generate DataSchema variable (status detail = incompatible)
- Undetermined - harmonization status not determined
- Not Applicable - harmonization status is not relevant
