Pregnant women, aged 18 years and older, were recruited during a visit to the blood sampling in pregnancy clinic in Sherbrooke for their first trimester clinical blood samples.

Women were excluded if they: had known pre-pregnancy diabetes, took medication that influenced glucose tolerance, had glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) ≥6.5% or 1 h glucose ≥10.3 mmol/L post-50 g GCT, as this was classified as overt diabetes based on 2008 CDA criteria.

All women were invited to participate if they received prenatal care directly at or in a health center affiliated with the CHUS and planned delivery at the CHUS.

Data Collection Event

Gen3G - Mothers 12 years post delivery

The 12 years after delivery included up to 2 visits, where we met mother-child dyads. During the first visit, we collected socio-demographic data, medical histories updated, lifestyle habits, anthropometric measurements (weight, waist circumference), their feelings and behaviours experienced during the past 7 days, neurocognitive functions (Wechsler Scale of Intelligence for Adult (sub-tests: similarities and matrix reasoning)) and eating behaviour (Three-Factor-Eating Questionnaire, 24-h dietary recall). If accepted, we collected mother’s urine, stool and fasting blood samples. In the second visit, mother-child dyad accepted to perform an OGTT and a brain MRI during the first 30 min of the OGTT. Maternal blood samples were collected at fasting and T30, T60 and T120 minutes after ingestion.
