The siblings population is composed of the older full siblings of the children to be born into the study.

Data collection occurred at study visits through questionnaires, physical measurements, and laboratory analysis of biological samples.

Information about demographics, family health history, ethnicity, lifestyle practices (nutrition and associated behaviours, physical activity and associated behaviours, parental smoking history), socioeconomic status (education, income, postal code) were collected by questionnaire.

Height, weight, waist and hip circumferences, subscapular and tricep skinfolds, and blood pressure were measured. Body mass index was calculated.

Blood was also collected if the sibling is older than 5 years old, noted as fasting or non-fasting, and tested for glucose, insulin apolipoprotein A1, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
