Entire cohort (participation rate: 63%)

The cohort members were traced through the Danish Civil Registration System, which keeps a record of all those living in Denmark since 1968. The register contains information on name, date of birth, residence, marriage and vital status.

Data Collection Event

1905 - Wave 1

The survey consisted of an interview and testing of mental and physical functioning.

The interview part covered the following topics: sociodemographic factors, self-reported anthropometric measures, life habits, health, physical ability, psychological status, sensory deficits, family history and social life.

Testing of cognitive and physical functioning included tests of cognitive abilities and tests of physical performance.

In addition, participants were asked to give a cell sample (blood or cheek swab) from which DNA could be extracted.
