The CONSTANCES population is composed of people in France whose health insurance is administered by the French National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) in the catchment areas of the 21 CONSTANCES Health Screening Centers; and aged 18 to 69 years at inception.

The questionnaire comprised information on social and demographic characteristics (social position, educational and income level, employment, marital status, household composition, socioeconomic status of parents and spouse and material living condition), health (personal and family history, self-reported health scales, incident and prevalent diseases, information on sick leaves, handicaps, limitations, disabilities and injuries, and health care utilization and management), behavior (smoking and alcohol consumption, dietary habits, physical activity, marijuana use and sexual orientation) and occupational factors (job history, lifelong and current occupational exposure to chemical, physical and biological agents, postural. mechanical and organizational constraints, and stress at work). Information was also collected about urinary incontinence using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ).

The participants are also followed-up passively for social and work-related events and health data by regular linkage with the national databases. Vital status and cause of death is obtained from the National Death Registry.
