The population is composed of predominantly European descent Lausanne inhabitants aged 35 to 75 years.

Information on demographic data, socioeconomic status, lifestyle behaviors (smoking, alcohol intake), personal history of diseases (diabetes, stroke, myocardial infarction, and coronary procedures or surgery), prescribed and over-the-counter medication, and familial history of cardiovascular risk factors was collected through an interview.
Self-rating questionnaires were used to screen for some lifestyle factors such as diet using the Questionnaire alimentaire Bus Santé, physical activity using the Physical Activity Frequency Questionnaire (PAFQ), level of daytime sleepiness using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), obstructive sleep apnea using the STOP-BANG questionnaire, narcolepsy using the Ullanlinna Narcolepsy Scale (UNS), sleep apneas using the Berlin questionnaire, circadian typology using the Circadian typology questionnaire, sleep quality and disorders using the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), restless legs syndromes using the Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) screening questionnaire, parasomnias using the Munich Parasomnia Screening (MUPS), and depression using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D).
Body weight and height, waist and hip circumference, blood pressure, heart rate, percentage of fat, and handgrip were measured.
Pulmonary function (PneumoLaus), polysomnography (HypnoLaus), bone densitometry in women (OsteoLaus), and ophthalmological exams (OphthalmoLaus) were performed in additional assessment modules.
Blood and urine samples were collected.
Information on the cause of death and cardiovascular diseases from medical records or the Swiss National Death Registry was collected.
