The first pregnancy trimester (1-13 weeks) only assesses women recruited before 13 weeks of gestation.

A questionnaire was used to assess pregnancy information, current physical activity, current mental health, current medical conditions, social support, life events, medication use, recreational drug and alcohol use, smoking behaviour, dietary information, sociodemographic information, and family history.

The prenatal in-person visit assessments consisted of anthropometric measurements (height, weight and skinfold measures), a 24 hour food recall for the day prior to the visit and a 3 hour food recall for the 3 hours prior to the appointment, a supplement intake questionnaire, and blood samples collection.
