The population consists of any resulting child from all pregnant women residents in the old administrative county of Avon if their estimated delivery date fell between 1 April 1991 and 31 December 1992.

At the focus clinic, health, literacy/numeracy, physiological information was assessed.

Reading skills were assessed.

Fitness, hearing, and oto-acoustic emissions were measured. Scoliosis, sitting height, waist circumference, weight, acne, DXA-whole body scans, bioelectric impedance, flexural dermatitis and anthropometry measures were taken.

A blood sample was collected.
