The population consists of any resulting child from all pregnant women residents in the old administrative county of Avon if their estimated delivery date fell between 1 April 1991 and 31 December 1992.

At the “children in focus” clinic, cognitive, environmental, physical, and seeing, hearing and speaking measures were taken.

Information about diet, vision history, external eye inspection, eye colour was collected.

Memory was measured through a habituation task.

Anthropometry, eye movements, cover tests, visual acuity and photorefraction were measured as well.
