The population consists of any resulting child from all pregnant women residents in the old administrative county of Avon if their estimated delivery date fell between 1 April 1991 and 31 December 1992.

Information was collected through the use of questionnaires, and registries.

Some questions were child based and some were child completed. Questionnaires specifically collected information about child’s health and behavior and also about child’s teeth. In addition, information was collected about physical health, mental and cognitive issues, diet and nutrition, childcare and schooling. Information about current health and symptoms, dental health and visits to the dentist, whether seen doctor, hospital admissions, surgical procedures, accidents and injuries, medications, infections, time off school due to ill health, growth problems, and bed wetting/ bladder problems, childcare and schooling information such as school enjoyment, special needs at school, educational problems, was collected. Anthropometry measures were collected in a self-reported manner.

Amongst mental and cognitive issues information about behaviour, Development and Well-Being (DAWBA), antisocial activities, and social cognition was collected.

Children have been linked to the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) database, Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC), Annual School Census (ASC) and National and the Pupil Database (NPD).

Participants were linked to residential addresses across the life course. Linkages could be established to co-ordinates or health, political and administrative geographies. Participants could also be linked to neighbourhood data.
