Collected Dataset / ALSPAC_Children_24months

The population consists of any resulting child from all pregnant women residents in the old administrative county of Avon if their estimated delivery date fell between 1 April 1991 and 31 December 1992.

Information was collected through the use of questionnaires, and registries.

Some questions were child based and some were child completed. Questionnaire specifically collected information about any accidents or problems child may have, eating and drinking, temperament and the way child may be beginning to understand the world. In addition, information was collected about physical health, mental and cognitive issues, diet and nutrition, environmental characteristics, parenting, childcare and schooling, activities and other characteristics. Information about accidents and injuries, medications, hearing, vision, growth problems, toilet training, and teeth/dental problems, diet and nutrition information including breastfeeding or bottle feeding, food frequency, feeding difficulties, eating behaviours, dietary supplements was collected. Environmental exposures information such as passive smoke, contact with pets, busy roads, and hygiene was collected as well as information about parenting, childcare and schooling information such as who, where and when children are cared for. Information about activities such as toys/activities, pacifier use and thumb sucking was collected as well.

Amongst mental and cognitive issues information about temperament, language and vocabulary was collected.

Children have been linked to the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) database, Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC), Annual School Census (ASC) and National and the Pupil Database (NPD).

Participants were linked to residential addresses across the life course. Linkages could be established to co-ordinates or health, political and administrative geographies. Participants could also be linked to neighbourhood data.
