The population consists of any resulting child from all pregnant women residents in the old administrative county of Avon if their estimated delivery date fell between 1 April 1991 and 31 December 1992.

Information was collected through the use of questionnaires, and registries.

Some questions were child based and some were child completed. Questionnaires specifically collected information about child’s health and behavior from the mother and information about self-image, fitness and tiredness, journeys to and from school, leisure time, using the toilet and wetting and soiling, ability, attitude , aspirations for and achievements in a selection of core subjects at school, math teaching that the respondent receives and plans for GCSE’s and beyond from the child study. Information was collected about physical health, mental and cognitive issues, and diet and nutrition social characteristics, parenting, school and education, substance use, diet and nutrition information including dietary supplements was collected. Social characteristics such as neighbourhood information, child-reported information about relationship with parents, school information including school enjoyment, ability and attitude toward learning, alcohol, smoking and drug use information was also collected.

Psychosis-like symptoms were assessed.

Children have been linked to the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) database, Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC), Annual School Census (ASC) and National and the Pupil Database (NPD).

Participants were linked to residential addresses across the life course. Linkages could be established to co-ordinates or health, political and administrative geographies. Participants could also be linked to neighbourhood data.
