The population consists of any resulting child from all pregnant women residents in the old administrative county of Avon if their estimated delivery date fell between 1 April 1991 and 31 December 1992.

Information was collected through the use of questionnaires, and registries.

Some questions were child based and some were child completed. Questionnaires specifically collected information about child’s health and behavior from the mother and information about food, text responses about memories of real events triggered by particular feelings, aches and pains in limbs and also about tiredness from the child. Also, information about reading, psychosis-like symptoms, music and singing from another questionnaire also from the child study. Information was collected about physical health, mental and cognitive issues, diet and nutrition, childcare and schooling, and substance use. Information about current health and symptoms, fitness, accidents, hospital admissions, medications, reactions to medicines, limb pain, fatigue, allergies, eczema and asthma, convulsions or seizures, infections, hearing, vision, sleeping, fatigue, tics/twitches, diet and nutrition information including food frequency, eating behaviours special diet and information about childcare and schooling information such as type of school, and school enjoyment, child’s job aspiration, reading habits, singing, musical instruments listening to music and weekend and general activities. Information about alcohol consumption, attitudes towards alcohol, smoking and drugs, road safety and transport use information was collected as well. Anthropometry measures were collected in a reported manner.

Amongst mental and cognitive issues information about strengths and difficulties, mood and feelings, body image and eating disorder was collected. Child’s psychosis-like symptoms, self-image, body image, dieting behaviour, eating disorders, antisocial behaviour and feelings and experiences were assessed as well.

Children have been linked to the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) database, Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC), Annual School Census (ASC) and National and the Pupil Database (NPD).

Participants were linked to residential addresses across the life course. Linkages could be established to co-ordinates or health, political and administrative geographies. Participants could also be linked to neighbourhood data.
