The population consists of any resulting child from all pregnant women residents in the old administrative county of Avon if their estimated delivery date fell between 1 April 1991 and 31 December 1992.

Information was collected through the use of questionnaires, and registries.

Some questionnaires were child based and some were child completed. Questionnaires specifically collected information about child’s health and behavior from mother and information about watches, psychosis-like symptoms, computer usage, gender, and date of birth from child study. Information was collected about physical health, mental and cognitive issues, diet and nutrition, social characteristics, parenting, childcare and schooling, employment, substance use and activities. Information about current health and symptoms, headaches, surgical procedures, accidents and injuries, medications, allergies, eczema and asthma, diarrhea or gastrointestinal problems, convulsions or seizures, time off school due to ill health, hearing, vision, speech problems, other health problems, sleeping, diet and nutrition information including dietary supplements, and alcohol, cigarettes and drug consumption was collected. Information about childcare and schooling such as who, where and when children are cared for, type of school, transport to school, school enjoyment, favorite subjects, disciplinary problems, parental aspirations for school/career, child’s enjoyment, difficulties and computer use at home and school, and information about child’s job aspirations was also collected as well as information about activities such as out of school activities, outings, favorite activities, help in the home, activities with adults and activities with siblings. Finally, social information about siblings, religion and friendships, parenting information such as parenting measure, discipline and own space was collected as well.

Amongst mental and cognitive issues, information about strengths and difficulties, social cognition, mood and feelings and attitude towards animals was collected. Child’s psychosis-like symptoms were assessed as well.

Children have been linked to the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) database, Pupil Level Annual School Census (PLASC), Annual School Census (ASC) and National and the Pupil Database (NPD).

Participants were linked to residential addresses across the lifecourse. Linkages could be established to co-ordinates or health, political and administrative geographies. Participants could also be linked to neighbourhood data.
