Detailed sociodemographic, psychosocial, and nutritional information was collected through questionnaires that were administered to the parent.
An infant feeding and nutrition questionnaire was completed by interview to assess the initiation, duration and exclusivity of breast feeding and the age of introduction of complementary foods. Information about vaccinations, health problems, medication use and hospitalizations was also collected as well as an assessment of the mother and the father’s relationship with the baby.
A standardized growth assessment was done, which included weight, height, arm length, back and arm skinfold thickness, crown-rump length, and head, arm and waist circumference. Visual, auditory and electrophysiological testing was also done.
