The objective of this study was to determine whether lifestyle factors including nutrition, physical activity, smoking and alcohol habits are associated with health problems in adulthood, such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, osteoporosis, diabetes and cancer. The aim is also to analyze whether differences in adolescents' socio-economic background correlates with lifestyle factors, health and development of disease in adulthood.

The population is composed of adolescents born in 1978 or 1979 in two socioeconomically different cities, Uppsala and Trollhättan.

Fifteen-year-old adolescents living in the university city of Uppsala and the industrial town of Trollhättan were randomly selected from the official population register. The selected subjects were invited by letter to participate in the study and subsequently, contacted by telephone.
