The objective of the Stockholm Diabetes Prevention Programme (SDPP) is to study the importance of hereditary, individual and environmental determinants of impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes and related morbidity like obesity and high blood pressure as well as consequences.

- The cohort has a subgroup comprised of those who responded to the one-page selection survey, referred to as "survey responders" (n = 26,717) and a subgroup of individuals chosen from the survey responders and without a current diagnosis of T2D, referred to as the "clinical cohort" (n = 7949).

SDPP population
The population is composed of men and women between the ages 35-56, from five municipalities of Stockholm County Council randomly selected between the years 1992-1998.

- Individuals without a current T2D diagnosis or who had absence of first- and second-degree relatives with T2D were selected for the clinical cohort.

Participants aged 35–56 years living in five municipalities in Stockholm County were identified through population registers and invited to complete a one-page screening questionnaire sent by mail.
