The objective of this database is to catalog detailed clinical information on all admissions to adult intensive care units in the Winnipeg health region of Manitoba, for use in quality improvement and research.

At its start in 1988, the Manitoba ICU Database only included information from two ICUs at the Health Sciences Centre. From June 1, 1999 onwards, information from all adult ICUs within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority have been included.

The population is composed of adult individuals (18 years old and more) admitted to the ICU in any of the 6 Winnipeg hospitals (the Health Sciences Centre, St. Boniface General Hospital, Seven Oaks General Hospital, Concordia Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, and the Grace Hospital).

Data is collected from all ICU admissions that are under the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

Data Collection Event
Information about demographics, admissions, discharges, diagnoses and procedures (interventions), complications relevant to the current admissions, APACHE (Acute Physiological and Chronic Health Evaluation Score) elements, ADL information, drugs, TISS (Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System) items, laboratory and imaging counts and any current temporary projects is collected from hospital charts.
