The Labour Force Survey (LFS) objective is to collect monthly information on the current state of the Canadian labour market and calculate the national, provincial, territorial, and regional employment and unemployment rates. It also provides other labour market information about Canada’s working-age population such as hours of work, industry, occupation, and wages.

- Occupants of selected dwellings in the territories are interviewed every three months over a two-year period, for a total of eight interviews. After eight interviews, the household is replaced by another from the same community or from another community in the same stratum. Residents of Canadian provinces are followed up once a month for six months.
- Supplementary Information
- From 1945 to 1951 LFS was a quarterly survey. Afterwards, LFS collects information every month, and responding to this survey is mandatory.
