The Home Care Reporting System (HCRS) was launched in 2006–2007.
HCRS captures demographic, clinical, functional, and resource utilization information on clients served by publicly funded home care services, including publicly funded services delivered by private-sector agencies and those funded and delivered by the government of Canada (e.g., Veterans Affairs).
The objective of the HCRS are:
* To support front-line care planning and quality improvement at the point of care.
* To support planning, quality improvement, funding and accountability at the management and policy-making levels.

The population is composed of individuals who access publicly funded home care services. These services range from short-term such as a single service in response to a specific event (e.g., nursing care following a stay in an acute care hospital) to long-term needs for support from a range of health providers to remain living in a community setting.
