Epidemiology for Health
- To study prevalence’s of common degenerative disorders in the Swedish population in the ages 45-75 years;
- To study life-style patterns in the ages 45-75 years and differences between genders;
- To study heritability of common degenerative disorders in the Swedish population by using data from families attending both EpiHealth and LifeGene studies;
- To evaluate novel biomarkers in serum and plasma for future common degenerative disorders;
- To study the relationships between genotypes and future development of common degenerative disorders;
- To study the relationships between life-style factors and future development of common degenerative disorders.

A randomization procedure will assure that all age-groups and both genders are equally represented in the main study. The majority of the sample will be included based on population-based randomization using official registries and/or commercial address databases.

Data Collection Event
During the baseline investigation, data collection came from three primary sources: internet-based questionnaires, physical measurements from the EpiHealth Test Center visit and results from the analysis of blood before storage.
The questionnaire provides information about several life-style factors divided into fifteen sections: family structure, social group, education, reproduction, history of diseases, medication usage, food intake, alcohol consumption, smoking/snuffing history, physical activity, work life history, pain history, quality of life, history of injuries and environmental exposures.
At the EpiHealth Test Centre (Uppsala or Malmö), physical measurements (ECG, blood pressure and pulse rate, height, weight, waist circumference and lung function), cognitive tests (Trail making test A and B) and fasting blood samples are collected to provide baseline data.
Finally, the EpiHealth database is merged with several official national Swedish registries regarding health care.
