DMHDS - 3 years
During this assessment phase, participants went to the Dunedin Research Unit for a one-day assessment.
Information was collected about the child’s social competence, the milestones the child has reached at their age and the experiences and activities that they’ve participated in. The child’s life history was also assessed including whether he is a twin or not, if he has siblings and if they live together, separation from parents, and sociodemographic information of parents. A pediatric interview was performed collecting information on the participant’s health (common illnesses, loss of consciousness, coughs, colds, ear infections, vaccinations, accidents and poisonings, hospitalizations, Plunket services used, breastfeeding, circumcision, hearing problems, and whether the child is under the care of a doctor) and the mother and child’s behavior was observed.
A psychometric assessment was also part of the data collected where information about the child’s language, vocabulary, motor skills, and behavior was assessed. Data on gross and fine motor skills were also collected.
Finally, the child underwent a neurological examination where visual acuity and congenital abnormality were assessed. Height, weight and head circumference were also measured.

During this assessment phase, participants went to the Dunedin Research Unit for a one-day assessment.
Information was collected about the child’s experiences and activities that they’ve participated in, daycare and school and household structure. A pediatric interview was performed collecting information on the participant’s health, sleeping and eating habits, medical health problems, accidents, hospitalizations, and treatments and whether they were under the care of a doctor or specialist. The parent-child relationship, behavior and social maturity of the child, and discipline (types of behavior, obedience, tantrums, and parents’ attitudes toward their own discipline methods, type of punishment, strictness, differences in discipline between parents and rewards) were observed.
A psychometric assessment was also part of the data collected where information about the child’s language, vocabulary, motor skills, intelligence and behavior was assessed.
Finally, the child underwent a neurological examination where visual acuity and hearing were assessed.
There were two public health nurse home visits where information about the use of Plunket services as well as information about the child such as immunization, health, school, school health service, nursing activities, involvement with health and welfare agencies, development, environmental report, and housing classification were collected.

During this assessment phase, participants went to the Dunedin Research Unit for a one-day assessment.
Information was collected about the child’s experiences and activities that they’ve participated in, family, daycare and school, and household structure. A pediatric interview was performed collecting information on the participant’s health, sleeping and eating habits, cycling and swimming, accident history, family history of heart problems, and general health. Social-environmental characteristics of family and behavior, attendance, educational progress, health and schooling, child’s influences and ability at school, use of specialist services, teacher’s knowledge of child at school were also assessed.
A psychometric assessment was also part of the data collected where information about the child’s speech articulation, behavior, intelligence and directional confusion, spoken and written language, basic motor ability and skills, and maturity was assessed.
The child also underwent a neurological examination where visual acuity and hearing were assessed.

During this assessment phase, participants went to the Dunedin Research Unit for a one-day assessment.
Information was collected about the child’s experiences and activities that they’ve participated in, family, daycare and school, and household structure. A pediatric interview was performed collecting information on the participant’s health, sleeping and eating habits, cycling and swimming, general health, hospitalizations and accidents or injuries. The parent-child relationship, behavior and discipline (parents’ attitudes toward their own discipline methods, type of punishment, agreement in discipline methods between parents) were observed. The child’s affective state from the parents’ and their own perspective, the social climate in their family, the child’s self-concept, the mother’s health, and also mothers’ knowledge of health issues were inquired.
A psychometric assessment was also part of the data collected where information about the child’s progress at school (reading, printing, arithmetic, spelling, written language), psycholinguistic abilities, verbal comprehension and expression, speech articulation, behavior visual-motor ability skills, and intelligence was assessed.
The child also underwent a neurological examination where visual acuity and hearing were assessed. Blood pressure was measured and an exercise tolerance test was performed.

Information was collected about the child’s healthy lifestyle, physical activity, sports involvement, fitness, and dental health. The child’s behavior, attention, experiences, family, household structure, sleeping habits, activities, school, and discipline (strictness, methods, consistency) were assessed. The child’s medical history and parents’ health and mental health, and for girls, the menstrual period information were also inquired.
A psychometric assessment was also part of the data collected where information about the child’s own perspective of academic abilities, self-esteem, intelligence and reading and writing capacities was assessed. Information on the child’s behavior and emotions from their teacher's perspective was collected.
The child also underwent a neurological examination where visual acuity and hearing were assessed. Blood pressure was measured and an exercise tolerance test was performed.

Information was collected about the child’s behavior, strengths, difficulties with daily activities, family, household structure and school. Data was also collected about the parent’s general health, the mother’s mental health and views on certain health-related issues. Information of the child’s dental and general health, injuries, hospitalizations, asthma and allergies, and for girls, information on menstrual period was collected. Mothers were inquired about knowledge of changes to the legislation relating to seatbelts and children were assessed for smoking and alcohol consumption behaviors, child’s road safety knowledge and perceptions. Information from teachers about the child’s behavior and emotions was also assessed, as well as the child’s attachment to parents and peers, his mental health, identification of his locus of control and its ability to affect their health, self-reports of illegal and norm-violating behaviors and neuropsychological data.
A psychometric assessment was also part of the data collected where information about the child’s school, career aspirations, opinions (attitude toward school, self-esteem), intelligence, reading, writing, and speech was gathered.

Nutrition, smoking and alcohol consumption data were also collected for the child. Information was also inquired about the mother’s mental health, the child’s family history and parent’s general health, the child’s, dental, mental, and general health, injuries, hospitalizations, asthma and allergies, and for girls, information on dysmenorrhea. Information from self-reports of illegal and norm-violating behaviors was obtained, as well as the identification of the child’s locus of control and its ability to affect their health, and the child’s attachment to parents and peers, views on future parenting, and information on the child’s pathway to employment. Finally, information on transportation (means, accidents, injuries) was collected.
Ear, nose and throat measures were taken and blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight, head circumference, and vision were also measured.

Information was collected about the participant’s partner relations, education, work history, behavior and emotions, difficulties with daily activities, as well as general information about family, household structure, physical activities during leisure time, cycling and other activities, and school. Information was also inquired about the participant’s dental, mental, and general health, their view of mental health, use of services, medications, and about respiratory diseases. Drugs, smoking and alcohol consumption data were also gathered. Data from self-reports of illegal and norm-violating behaviors, priorities, home environment, and recall of their childhood was obtained. Finally, information about the participant was obtained from the significant other, as well as information on the participant’s transportation (road safety and attitudes towards it, means, accidents, injuries, driving habits).
In addition, blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight were measured.

Also, information on the participant’s self-reports of illegal and norm-violating behaviors, intergenerational relations (relationship with parents), and self-hurt and coping behaviors was collected. Finally, smoking and alcohol consumption data, information about assault and injuries, road safety, and violence victimization were gathered.
In addition, blood pressure, height and weight were measured and a fitness test was performed.

Data was collected from a cognitive assessment that was conducted to measure intelligence and cognitive ability.
In addition, blood pressure, height and weight were measured. Tests were performed to assess fitness, taste, endothelial function, cardio-respiratory fitness and retinal function.
