The Canadian Health Measures Survey aims to collect important health information through a household interview and direct physical measures at a mobile examination centre (MEC), sometimes referred to as a mobile clinic.
The objectives of this survey are to:
* Estimate the number of Canadians potentially at risk of developing certain diseases;
* Determine relationships between disease risk factors and health status;
* Explore emerging public health issues; and
* Evaluate new measurement technologies.

Statistics Canada plans to collect blood and urine samples from 5,700 randomly selected persons per cycle (voluntary basis) for the Canadian Health Measures Survey.

CHMS population
The population is composed of Canadian individuals between 3 and 79 years of age living in privately occupied dwellings in one of the ten provinces. For the pilot phase and Cycle 1, the minimum age of participants included was 6 years old.

The CHMS will collect data in 16 sites across the country. The collection sites are located in seven provinces: Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, not including the territories, Native reserves or military.
