- After the baseline, there were two follow-up examinations. In 2006, the ATTICA study’s investigators performed the intermediate 5-year follow-up and during 2011-12 they performed the 10-year follow-up.

The sampling was random, multistage and was based on the age and sex distribution of the province of ATTICA provided by the National Statistical Service, according to the census of 2000. Only one participant per household was enrolled.
