The population is composed of children, under six years of age at the time of recruitment, and attending scheduled health maintenance visit with their primary care physician.

Information is collected from many questionnaires, including the Nutrition and Health Questionnaire (child's food and fluid intake, physical growth, physical activity, sedentary behavior, and factors influencing food intake), the NutriSTEP (child's food and nutrient intake, physical growth, developmental and physical capabilities, physical activity, food security, and feeding environment) the Child Behaviour Questionnaire (temperament, activity and parenting, surgency/extraversion, negative affectivity, and effortful control), the Nipissing District Developmental Screen (vision, hearing, communication, motor function, self-help, and cognitive, social and emotional function), the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (emotional problems, conduct problems, inattention-hyperactivity, peer problems, and prosocial behaviors), and the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (developmental delay in communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving and personal social behavior).

At each visit, children and their accompanying parent have height, weight, and waist circumference measured. Blood pressure is also measured.

A blood sample is taken.
