The population is composed of nuclear families from the general adult population in the areas of Lausanne, Geneva and Bern, who are at least 18 years old and are of European ancestry.

Baseline recruitment started in December 2009, was achieved in April 2012 in Lausanne, in October 2012 in Geneva, and in April 2013 in Bern. Different strategies were used to obtain random samples of the population in each study center. Index cases were randomly selected from the population-based CoLaus study in Lausanne, and from the population-based Bus Santé study in Geneva . In Bern, index participants were randomly selected using the cantonal phone directory.

Data Collection Event

SKIPOGH - Follow-up

Self-administered questionnaires collected data on sociodemographic variables, lifestyle and health status, including information on follow up of medical history (focus on cardiovascular events), medication intake, employment, social economic status, sleeping habits and physical activity. Anthropometric examination was performed during the visit to the study center. In addition, the following clinical examinations were carried out: renal ultrasound, pulse wave velocity, arterial stiffness examination (SphygmoCor ®), cardiac echography (Lausanne, Geneva) and intima media thickness of carotid (IMT), ECG, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), retinal imaging and intra-ocular pressure. A 24h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) was undertaken in selected centers. Study participants were also asked to carry an activity tracker (Sensewear ®) during 24h. Blood sampling and urine collection were performed.
