SHIP - START cohort
A representative sample of men and women aged between 20 and 79 years was drawn using a two-stage stratified and cluster sampling scheme. First, 32 communities in the region were selected. Second, within the communities a simple random sample was drawn from residence registries, stratified by gender and age.
Data Collection Event
SHIP - START cohort - START-1
Information is collected about sociodemographic characteristics (education, marital status, income, household structure, occupation), oral hygiene, physical activity, behavioural risk factors (smoking, alcohol consumption), diseases, injuries, health services utilization, medication, radioiodine therapy, traumatic life events and post-traumatic stress disorder, mental health (Composite International Diagnostic Interview), and cognitive functioning (Mini-Mental State Examination).
Physical measures such as anthropometry (weight, height), blood pressure, electrocardiogram, ultrasounds (heart, artery, thyroid), endothelial funtion, pulmonary function, dental status and periodental status are collected.
Blood and urine samples are collected.
