The population is composed of all patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) or other forms of spondyloarthritis (SpA) with predominantly axial disease according to the opinion of the treating rheumatologist.

Information about demographic and disease characteristics, concomitant treatments, laboratory values, and comorbidities were collected. In addition, information about disease state and quality of life was collected from self-administered questionnaires: the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index, the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index, the Short Form 36 Health Survey, the EuroQol 5-domain and EQ visual analog scale questionnaire. Spine and sacroiliac joint X-Rays were performed every 2-3 years at the discretion of the treating physician. Biosample(s) timing is left at the discretion of the treating physician. As a first aim of the biobank, at least one sample for each patient should be collected.
