The population is composed of individuals living in the Australian Capital Territory and the neighbouring town of Queanbeyan in the adjoining state of New South Wales and who are aged 20-24 years (birth years 1975-79) at the start of the study.

A broad range of fixed and time-varying risk factors and moderators have been collected in the interviews. These include information on demographics, health, stressors, social aspects, self-reported mental health, psychological scales, and self-reported general health. Cognitive measures were taken. Physical measures information were also taken. Participant's information was linked to their records with external Australian administrative databases such as physician billing, drug utilization, and death registries. Each cohort was interviewed over 1 year. The participants were aged 32-36 years.
