Population
OATS population
The participants are identical and non-identical twin pairs, aged 65 years and older and living in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
Data Collection Event
OATS - Baseline
Assessment may be performed in a clinic room or the participant's home, according to the convenience of the participant. Twins are interviewed separately with the co-twin being interviewed close in time to his or her twin.
The assessment covers the following areas:
Clinical: Sociodemographic data, medical and psychiatric history questionnaire, risk factors schedule, standard medical examination and a psychiatric assessment, including questionnaire for depression and anxiety.
Neuropsychological: A self-reported subjective cognitive complaints questionnaire, and a comprehensive assessment using a computerized battery as well as paper and pencil tests.
Informant interview: Informant questionnaire for cognitive decline in the elderly, confirmation of vascular risk factors and previous hormone replacement therapy use.
Also, blood is collected, medical records information is obtained and structural or functional MRI is performed.
Consensus diagnoses of mild cognitive impairment and dementia were made by an expert team comprising neuropsychiatrists and neuropsychologists on the basis of the available clinical, neuropsychological, laboratorial and imaging data.
