The sample included adult population of women who were evacuated from the fires in Fort McMurray in May 2016 while pregnant or those who became pregnant within 6 months after evacuation. Each subject was randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups. The women in this group wrote a journal addressing their innermost feelings.

At 24 months post-fire, participants completed questionnaires about their sociodemographics background, coping style (Brief COPE and Brief R-COPE), PTSD symptoms (Impact of Event Scale), life events (Adverse Childhood experiences and Life Experiences Survey), maternal anxiety (Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety), stress (Perceived Stress Scale) and depression (Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale). Maternal objective exposure to the traumatic event was measured with Fort McMurray Objective Stress Scale. Assessment of resilience consisted in completing the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. A questionnaire on Mental Health Continuum was also administered.
