The population is composed of the Fort McMurray mothers’ children born after the wildfires in May 2016 (but conceived before, during or 6 months after this natural disaster). Their mothers belong to the "Non-Therapeutic Writing" treatment group, who wrote a journal addressing non-emotional issues of health lifestyle.

At 12 months postpartum, questionnaires on children’s vocabulary (MacArthur Bates Communication Inventory and Sounds and Gestures, Toddler version), general development (Ages & Stages Questionnaire), and temperament (Brief Infant Toddler Social Emotional Assessment) were completed. Assessment of mother-child interaction and a maternal separation session occurred during the visit. The child’s height, weight, and other anthropometric measures (waist and arm circumferences) were also taken as measures of adiposity.
