The population is composed of mothers who delivered prematurely between 23 0/7 and 28 6/7 weeks of gestation who were randomized to receive either a placebo or a supplementation providing 1.2g of DHA per day.

Information related to the trial, such as consent and eligibility review, randomization confirmation, protocol deviations, and other administrative data, was collected. Socio-demographic characteristics such as information on family, ethnicity, age, marital status, income, language, education, and employment status, information on pre-delivery hospitalization, contraception, reproductive technologies usage, health care provider, nutritional diet, previous breastfeeding history, medical history (significant obstetrical history and non-obstetrical history) smoking, electronic smoking, alcohol, and drugs were collected through a maternal interview. Maternal omega-3 fatty acid intake from marine food products in the last month was assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Maternal concomitant medication and information related to the current pregnancy, including anthropometric measurements prior to delivery, complications during pregnancy, steroid medications for respiratory diseases, labor, rupture of membranes, chorioamnionitis, and delivery information, were collected from medical records.
