The population is composed of the infants delivered prematurely between 23 0/7 and 28 6/7 weeks of gestation whose mothers were randomized to receive either a placebo or a supplementation providing 1.2g of DHA per day.

Relevant information including FiO2, flow, NPPV, O2 saturation and data on cardiorespiratory events (number of events, apnea, bradycardia, desaturation) were also collected before, during, and after a supplemental oxygen reduction test. Information on respiratory support related information (maximum FiO2 percentage, cannula flow, positive pressure, Mean Airway Pressure, number of days the infant received any supplemental O2, mechanical ventilation, and supplemental O2 by nasal prongs) were collected from medical record at 36 weeks’ PMA. Information related to the trial such as protocol deviations, reason for study exit, and an adjudication to confirm diagnosis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia was collected.
