The population is composed of the infants delivered prematurely between 23 0/7 and 28 6/7 weeks of gestation whose mothers were randomized to receive either a placebo or a supplementation providing 1.2g of DHA per day.

Information on the family, home environment (second-hand smoke exposition, nutrition and language at home) and parent perception of their child health were collected through a questionnaire answered by the parent. Information on the date of discharge from the last hospital, cause of death, medical history, rehospitalisation, surgeries, seizures, immunization history, weight, height, head circumference, blood pressure, medication taken, disease diagnosis (neurological abnormalities, cerebral palsy), chronic illness, disability, infirmity limits, and treatments were recorded from medical record. A hearing assessment was performed by an audiologist, a visual assessment was performed by an ophthalmologist or orthoptist, and a development examination was performed by a psychologist through the Bayley-III assessment. This information was also collected from medical record.
