The population is composed of multiparous women having given birth to infants in the cities of Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, between 2006 and 2008.

The women had to be English speaking, having given birth to a child of at least 1,500 grams, and having a child one or more children younger than 16 years old in the house.

Data Collection Event

KFP - Mothers - Wave 1

At Wave 1, the newborns were approximately 2 months old. The mothers participated in an in-home interview and completed questionnaires about some aspects of their family life, affection and conflict between siblings, shared and different experiences of siblings as they grow up, how parents taught children new skills, cooperation within relationships and conflict resolution. Information was also collected about socio-demographic characteristics, child behavior, childcare and neighbourhood.

Cheek swabs were also collected.
