JHS - Annual follow-up 7
Participants are contacted annually by telephone to update contact information, confirm vital status, document interim medical events, hospitalizations, and functional status, and obtain additional sociocultural information. During the annual follow-up, questions on childhood, parental style, lifestyle (smoking) and neighborhood socioeconomic status provide complementary data to allow tracking of the participant’s socioeconomic status at different stages of life. Questions about medical events, symptoms of cardiovascular diseases, medications taken, life events and functional status are answered by the participants.
Ongoing cohort surveillance includes abstraction of medical records and death certificates for relevant International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes, and adjudication of nonfatal events and deaths.
